Seed to Seedling 3 Weeks In The Life

The first three weeks in the life of marijuana is some of the most interesting times. Everything from the germination to the end of the seedling stage can show you small tidbits into the future of your sweet Mary Jane.

During this time you will see the first signs of good plants. Good plants tend to germinate a bit faster then slower seeds. That is not to say that you won't or can't get good plants from slower germinating seeds. It is just the probability that the faster germinating seed will grow faster and reach the vegetative stage. Once it hits the vegetative stage it tends to be in a safe area of growth.

Seeds at this stage need just a few things:

  • Water
  • Air
  • The Right Temps

Water is undoubtedly the most important part of this whole equation, but to much water will drown the seedling. So you want to provide enough water without overdoing it. A little trick to do before you start the germination process is to submerge your seed in a glass of water for a hour or so. The water will soak in and start to bring the seed to life. Air is an important need in the whole life of marijuana. Without it the seed will drown.

The Temperature play a large roll with germination. If it get to high or to low there is a chance it will slow the germination process. It is best to keep the temperature between 77F - 79F degrees.

In this germination method You can see that it allows for plenty of water while also providing plenty of air for your seed.

Once the seeds are cracked plant them. You need to make sure that you do not plant them to deep. A good rule of thumb is to not plant them deeper than 2 times the seeds size. Typically you can expect to start seeing sprouts within a few days if all goes well.

A few days have past and you are starting to see some action. You are finally seeing the seedling leafs(cotyledon) poke through the medium. These leafs widen as she grows and in a few days you will see the first real leaves. Nutrients are really not necessary at this time. Although alot of growers are putting in hygrozyme when they feed their seedlings. It really is up to the grower to play with things and see what works best for you and your plants.

Remember to not overfeed at this stage, a little is plenty for right now. Drowning is very much still a possibility. Also instead of a somewhat cooler place like with germination, in seedling stage you want keep it a little warmer. These two things can make a world of difference.

Within a few week these little seedlings are going to grow up. Your plants are going to switch gears and start pumping out leaves. Typically your plant will be in this seedling stage for a few weeks. Under the medium is where most of the action is going on the first week to two weeks. Roots are forming like crazy and building a solid foundation for the growth that is soon to come. Once the growth becomes rapid above the medium is when you are in vegetative stage.
